Exciting New Project with Dan Hanebrink, A Racing Electric Motorcycle!

When I called the telephone number for the company looking for CAD Consulting, I had no idea that I would be asked to join the very famous & successful motorcycle icon Dan Hanebrink! An added bonus is that his home based machine shop is just 10 minutes away from our Big Bear Lake vacation home.

Back in 1973 Mr. Hanebrink built by hand, and raced this outrageous road racer you see below.

The chassis is a Monocoque magnesium structure with a 3 cylinder 2 stroke Kholer snowmobile engine with 700cc displacement. Also hand built and designed by Dan is the CVT transmission that transmits power to the the rear 16" diameter rear wheel. The front wheel is 16" too.

I will be using Fusion 360 for this project.
I've already spent one day with Mr. Hanebrink and I was blown away by his intelligence and machining skills.

So he'll be building 5-8 copies of the Hustler X5 Junior Road Race bike shown at the top and I get to help, cool.

Teaching CAD In My $2.5M "Temporary" Palomar College Classroom

A CAD Professor's dream come true, a brand spankin' new classroom facility. There are 2 classrooms with 22 computers each. Each computer has 32GB RAM, Intel I7 processors, high end GPUs, and 24in Dell monitors.

Check out those tables, genuine Snap-On workbenches, amazing. See that window on the right? That's the onsite Haas Machining Center.

5 new Haas machines, including 5 axis, currently being set-up and tested.I believe there are 10 Haas CNC programming machines.

Of course we have an onsite 3D printing machine.

The plan is to use this "temporary" classroom for 5-7 years. You see, the entire Palomar College campus is being torn down and rebuilt with all the latest technology. This $350M program is 50% complete currently. Palomar College has approximately 30,000 students and 1,100 Professors.

It's really my pleasure, to be so lucky, to work in this environment.

An announcement like this has to be reported upon and discussed. Can they possibly make money at this price point?

Today's CAD Students, today's, not tomorrow's, entrepreneurs

I truly love teaching CAD at Palomar College, San Marcos, CA. I dig being around people that have a shared passion for all things CAD, mechanical things, and ideas about changing our world for the better.

Above is a photo of one of my students. He came up with an idea to create a small inexpensive hydroponic container. He modeled the idea using SW CAD and printed it on his own 3D printer at home. Amazing! Now he's in the process of gathering data about how the container works, if it needs iteration, etc. Note that a "Drawing" was not required up to this point in his project, cool!

The world is changing. I hope the new world of low cost CAD, Onshape and others, low cost 3D printers, and low cost CAM will enable anyone to change our world for the better.

Hang on to your hats, it's an "E ticket" ride.
